What is wrong with the ID card?

*NB This is an open email I have sent to a radio presenter named Polly Garside after I was woken with her opinions as to the greatness of ID cards.

UPDATE*** Polly Garside has radically altered her views since recieving this and many other emails detailng the dangers of a compulsary ID card scheme, linked with diabolical legislation to allow the government lock up anybody without charge or trial for an indefinate period of time.*

I always wake up to your show in the morning and normally really enjoy it. However today I was literally horrified by your comments regarding compulsary bio-metric ID cards. Please let me explain why. I am sorry that the explanation is long, but I
have only just scratched the surface.

OK for those who truly and honestly don't understand what is wrong with the compulsary ID card scheme I shall endeaver to outline it's merits and then clearly
demonstrate the real dangers in it's implementation.

The benefits:

It will eliminate credit card fraud. Well it will cut credit card and debit card fraud. The only way to do this is to produce your ID card at every transaction..
This means that every shop, every travel outlet, everyticket outlet everywhere will have to have a bio-metric ID scanner. You will enter your card into the reader and have an eye or a thumb print scan at the same time. This will mean that you and only you will be able to make the transaction. Hey Ho no more credit card fraud. Wooohoo! But in theory only.

You said it would stop underage drinking? It would stop underage people getting served in pubs.

The bad news is it won't stop an older brother/friend buying alchohol for younger people, or stop kids raiding their parents supplies.

The real bad news is, every shop, travelagent, ticket office, box office, pub, club, etc, will have to have a card reader and scanning device.

The Problems of this : The infrastructure is going to cost a fortune and our taxes will have to go up to pay for it. Currently the government are proposing that it
will cost about 3 Billion pounds. Based on previous, large scale infromation technology projects, This Government has not had any success whatsoever in
establishing these projects to time or to budget. I would estimate that the eventual cost would be more like 9-12 Billion pounds. In addition, it will be
buggy, insecure and fail a lot at the start.

The really, really bad part is this, When you make any transaction, your credit/debit card will be swiped, followed by your ID card and this transaction will be
verified with a bio-metric scan. What happens then? The details of this transaction will be stored in a Government database. Why? So that the Government can
protect us from those evil terrorists. How? Well, the Government will be tracking the transactions carried out in the UK and querying these transactions against
risk metrics to build risk profiles. Certain products, books, videos, dvds, website memberships, club memberships organisations, groups, etc, will be
monitored. Purchasing tickets to certain locations or to see certain speakers give lectures will also be monitored.

These transactions will be risk assessed, and a risk profile of you will be created. Any purchases you make, that the Government defines as risky, will raise
your threat risk level. The Government will be looking for purchases that indicate behaviour that may define a threat. That behaviour could be defined as potential
terrorism, potential serious organised crime, or potential political dissidency.

Do you trust the government with your private data? you may not mind them knowing what you buy at the supermarket, but what about those private purchases,
like sex toys, gambling debts, private club memberships. website memberships. How do you know how your personal data will be stored, used, rated or verified? Will it be kept safe? Will the database be hack proof? If you trust the technology, you may as
well publicly publish your full credtit card information on the internet right now!

The future threat to everyone's liberty:

The Home Secretary has already stated that he would like to be able to track terrorists and arrest them before they commit a crime. The ID card is the tool
that will be used to do that.

So you have a situation whereby your transactions are tracked, a profile is created and a threat assessment is built up. Your entitlements will be based on this,
benefits healthcare and pensions will not be available to you unless you have an ID card. If you have an ID card your threat to the national security of the UK
will be assessed and qualified.

Are you a terrorist?

At this point we need to define what a terrorist is. You will not think that you are one, but how do you know? You do not get to define what a terrorist is,
the Government does. What is worse is that future Governments get to ammend and add any definition they like. Is there a single, clear definition of a terrorist?

The Government of the UK has not clearly done this, but the main player in the war on terror has. Thanks to the USAPATRIOT act, passed unread by congress.The USAPATRIOT Act, which stands for Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terroism, was passed hastily and unread by Congress on Oct. 25, 2001 right after the 9-11 tragedy. It is mislabeled as the
USA Patriot Act.

This American draconian legislation has, in Section 802, a definition of domestic terrorism which defines a terrorist act as: "Any action that endangers human life that is a violation of any federal or state law." Pretty vague that.

This law allows the US government to: Search American homes or offices without the owners knowledge. Monitor their internet use, read their e-mail and examine their online purchases. Wiretap their telephone without a court order. Detain them without access to a lawyer and without charging them with a crime. Monitor their political and religious activities. The UK Government has similar legislation planned. It is
called The Civil Contingencies Bill.

The Civil Contingencies Bill allows for the suspension of elections and the restriction on travel and communication. All it takes is for the Government to
declare a state of emergency. What would cause this State of Emergency? A vague reference to terrorist activity is but one instance.

That's a pretty vague definition and it is The governement that creates law. So if a future Government wished to introduce a law you disagreed with, don't think about protesting against it. Your risk rating will increase. Once the ID entitlement card is in place, the Government will then have the power, should it choose to use it, to prevent you from purchasing things or accessing any Government services. It can prevent you from travelling or communicating with anybody. You will have completely
lost all say as to how you spend your own money. Of course it won't be your money. When the cashless society arrives, you will only be able to make purchases on debit or credit cards. so the money that changes hands will be the banks money.

Does this sound anything remotely like freedom to you?

So you will be tracked and if it seems likely that you may intend to commit a crime that risks the life of another person you could be taken and held without charge or trial indefinately. If you disagree with government policy, you may be held as a potential terrorist. If you travel to the wrong place, buy the wrong books, your risk level increases and you are flagged as a potential threat to the Powers That Be.
You will find your entitlements shrinking until one day, You may just disappear.

Sounds like a good definition of a fascist state to me.

You may think, this cannot happen here, we are a democracy, I trust our Government.

Well, remember Hitler was democratically elected too. His minions burned down the Reischtag, which he then blamed on the communists and declared a state of emergency and brought in the enabling act. Always for the protection of the Fatherland. Slowly over time he introduced more and more powers that reduced individual freedom and liberty. The Germans didn't realise what was going on until it was too late. They
were mislead by anti-terrorist propaganda and told that in order to defend Germany, Poland must be invaded to defeat the Communists and to defeat the foreign threat. The rest is history.

When at school we were tought about the great war, the destruction of Germany and the rise of the third reich, We were also told of words that have stuck with me to this day.:

"All that is required for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing"

What would you do if you were in 1930's Germany now? If you knew Hitler was to come to power, what would you do? Are we not faced with a similar possible threat now. The ID card, and the ID chip that will replace it, are the strongest tools in the totalitarian toolkit.

If you trust our Government, then fine. That is your democratic right, but what about a future Government? would you trust Michael Howard with this power? Or any future leader? The power to suspend elections, detain anybody on the suspicion of the intent to commit crime, and the ID card with which to track them.

Remember this is a Government supported by the opposition that deliberately lied to invade a country that was no threat, an invasion that has cost more lives than were taken by the tyrant Saddam Hussien. Innocent women and children have been literally blown to bits, maimed, disfigured and slaughtered. With a Government with such scant regard for human life, even a child's life, how can we trust them to tell the truth on ID cards? or respect our privacy? Who will protect us from their tyranny?

Why do we need it?

Tony Blair has repeatedly before during and after the invasion of Iraq claimed that the invasion will make, us safer.

"We and the world are safer without Saddam Hussein!" he said. Yet in the Queen's speech, "My Government recognises that we live in a time of global uncertainty with an increased threat from international terrorism and organised crime."

Eh? So now we have an "Increased Threat"? Isn't this Tony blair admitting failure in the waronterra and so we have to pay for his immoral policies with reduced liberty?

Once the ID card and the tracking technology is in place, we lose control of what is done with it. The Civil Contingencies Bill, allows the Government carte-blanche to prevent you from exorsising your democratic rights to remove them from office, the
other proposed laws will allow that Government to detain you without proof, evidence, trial or charge.

With laws of this kind seriously being proposed, do you really think the Government is trying to use these laws to protect us from terrorists, or are they going to be used to protect the Government from the people?

Once these tools are in place, we loose the chance to prevent them from being abused. It will be too late.

The ID card does NOT mean tyranny or dictatorship will follow, but once the tracking and entitlement technology is in place, linked with the new laws to track and detain potential threats, then we will then have lost the ability to prevent fascism from taking over.

The totalitarian toolkit will be in place to make it possible for a future leader to take our country into a technologically advanced version of Nazi Germany.

It's too great a price to pay to stop youngsters drinking in pubs.

I cannot think of any other benefit.

It will not stop terrorism.
It will not prevent assylum seekers, but legitimise them.
It will not prevent ID theft, but in the initial stages, make it easier.

As David Blunkett said, "Of course people will produce false ID's to get an ID card, but then they will be stuck with this false ID for life"

What a fantastic way for dangerous criminals to get a whole new clean slate identity all at once.

No! this is too dangerous a measure.

Are we good people or are we going to do nothing?

Each person must decide for themselves.

OK so the data is in, now we know the president didn't win the election, but he had it handed to him by the electronic voting machines - NOT the voters.

The exit polls in districts with an audit trail were accurate to 1% - 0.1%
The exit polls in districts with electronically counted votes and no paper trail all were out by on average 5%

The results in those districts all swung to the president but not in the districts with an auditable paper trail.

What are the odds of only the paperless districts being wrong? multiply those by the odds that all those that are wrong all go to Bush? When Diebold chief promised on the record that he would help Bush get re-elected.

That is more than mere chance.

The power of nightmares

Al queda was invented by America. Bin Laden was a rich, but powerless leader of a rag-tag bunch of no-hopers and is probably already dead. There is more chance of being injured or killed by ants, than by Al queda terrorists. Not one court case has found anyone guilty, of being a member of or planning or committing terror on behalf of Al Queda, based on verifiable facts. The military in Afghanistan searched all the caves and found empty caves or odd stacks of old, kalashnikovs or AK47's. Al queda was nowhere to be found. because they never existed. Bin Laden merely funded odd terrorist groups and freedom fighters fighting their own tyrannies.

It is a long established Straussian tactic to manufacture fake threats to manipulate others. The fiction surrounding 911 and Al Queda are the greatest lies ever told (next to the banking scam) and those liars that told them have stolen democracy from the American people. They have given you tyranny, oppression and slavery.

It took Hitler many years from the reichstag fire to the culmination of his evil to become apparent. from 1933 to 1939, he was lauded as a strong, charismatic and honorable leader throughout Europe and the world. I shouldn't compare Bush to Hitler as there are several major differences:

• Hitler was democratically elected, whereas Bush cannot verify that he ever was.


• Hitler saw active military duty in wartime, Bush chickened out and fled, during wartime, going AWOL and becoming a deserter.


• Hitler (part funded by Bush money) built a nation from rubble into a might global power. Whereas Bush is taking a great nation and through debt and deception, running it aground


• Hitler was intelligent

What if the wider public realise this and realise the depths of the lies and the real powerlessness of their leaders? They only have power if you grant them it! They have no more visions of great futures and no power to carry them out and in order to stay feasting at their trough's they must frighten their populations' into submission.

Powell's case for war?

There seems to me to be a slight problem with what
Powell actually said, or rather, what he didn't say.

If The USA has such wonderful spy technology that it
can listen in on people 'deceiving' the inspectors by
removing forbidden weapons technology FROM a place
that is about to be inspected. How come they never
EVER hear where that stuff is moved to? (to send
inspectors there?)

Mohamad: "you gotta move the stuff."
Almed: "OK I gotta move the stuff."
Mohamad: "yup, get it moved."
Almed: "OK, will do matey skip."
Mohamad: "Good."
Almed: "OK."
Almed: " . . . . . . . . . ."
Almed: "Um,. . . . where to?"

Come on, like the intelligence services wouldn't know?
Also the satelite images of a place that turns out to
be a legal and legitimate missile factory. They got
pictures of them moving things on truck from there.

Sam: "We have seen them moving missile parts out of
that building, ahead of the inspection."
Bob: "Coool, they must be in material breach woo hoo!"
Sam: "Yeah, they loaded up the trucks and drove them
out."
Bob: "OK, where to?"

Does this only strech MY credulity here? or is there
more to this?

I wondered about the authenticity of the recordings as
I listened to them. After all, the dialogue seemed
almost too perfect. It was almost as if they KNEW they
were being listened to and yet still gave EXACTLY the
information required to land themselves in the dung.

"They are coming, you should move the 'MODIFIED'vehicle."
"OK I will move the 'MODIFIED' vehicle."
all that was missing was one of them saying "nudge nudge wink wink."

If they were real and didn't know they were being
listened to, they would have said something like,
"The inspectors are coming, move the van",

If they knew they were being listened to they probably
would have used code like,
"They inspected Bahgdad."
"Gotcha"

This gave me a few initial doubts about the
authenticity of the intelligence to start with.

Well, it then transpires that a part of Powell's
'intelligence' come from up-to-the-minute information
gathered from the UK, from Tony Blair, from MI6
presumably. Only, it doesn't, does it? No. It was
information 'stolen' from reports and from a thesis dating
back twelve years, edited to make it look scary and
compliled by Junior members of Tony's 'spin' (or lie
through the teeth and hope you get away with it)
office.

What else was false about Powell's declaration to the
Security Council? Incidentally, doesn't Powell
presenting false information to that Council mean that
the USA is now in material breach of 1441?

The fact that falshoods are already proven in at least
some of Powell's testimony, means that the rest of it
MUST also be held in doubt.

Add to this the history of deception by The United States
Government in relation to Iraq. specifically the
'baby incubator story' where PR company 'Hill & Knowlton'
were employed to produce a reason for war. This was when Iraq's
direct aggression and invasion of another sovereign state
wasn't enough to pursuade the nation to take to war.
They produced a story of evil Iraqi soldiers tipping
tiny, helpless, premature babies out of their incubators
onto a cold hard Kuwait hospital floor to die. Just so that
the Iraqi's could steal the incubators to use in Bahgdad.
President Bush Snr. used this example of an 'evil act' many
time in speaches to pursuade the nation to go to war.

That 'evil act' was all a total fabrication. Lies
from start to finish. It was complete crap, bollocks
and bullshit -
and I bought it 100%.

They then present us with much more of the same 'intelligence
brought to you from wag the dog productions!'

This is what they use to pursuade us to want us to
send our loved one's off to war? Only, it won't
be a war will it?

It will be wholesale slaughter.

Iraq hasn't got any defences left. The Pro war Hawks
keep telling us Anti-war Peaceniks,
"It's OK, the conflict will only last a few days,
short sharp and disarmed by easter!"

Which also begs the question, If they are so
defenceless that this will be over so quick, HOW are
they a threat?

As for the, "Well, they are making WMD, which
terrorists could then use to attack us with" arguement.

firstly, Iraq knows it has more to gain by preventing
terrorists getting this stuff, because if any wmd does
hit the USA, Bahgdad will be turned to glass.

The Islamic fundamentalists know this too. So if they
want a muslim state to be nuked, they know how to
achieve it.

The main thing stopping terrorists at the moment is this
direct threat. Once Iraq has been 'Liberated' there will
be no reason for them to hold back, but quite the opposite.

Secondly, any chemical or biological weapons Iraq did
have will be inert by now. The only stocks they had are
what they got from the US, UK, France, Germany and a few
other places pre-1990. The stuff that is used to culture
anthrax goes off. There isn't a lab left in Iraq that
can make this stuff.

Jack Straw, the UK Foreign Secretary, claims that these
deadly weapons systems can be produced in a lab the
size of a living room. THAT IS TRUE! no really it is!

HOWEVER, that same living room sized lab needs to be
supported by a large facility that imports restricted
products. That would stand out like a sore thumb if it
was in a developed country. In a heavily restricted,
monitored and opressed third world country like Iraq?

Don't make me laugh!

These facts are not seriously discussed in the media.
Just the lies that are repeated continuously. Just the
false statements and disinformation and misleading
photographs.

We are presented with this falsified evidence in
(arguably) the most serious location on the planet,
The Security Council of the United Nations,
with a straight face and deadly serious intent.

They try to justify pre-emptive slaughter with these
lies and deception.

Sorry Mr Powell, I am not convinced. But then, I know
how to think. So that evidence was not intended for people like me.

OK, so Bush's own standard of proof, the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence; or the fact that there is no evidence proves how devious and weasly that regime is and therefore, the case for war; or "we don't need no stinking evidence". Using this standard, we can see that the US Government has for years had regular and on going contact with aliens from a variety of extra solar planets; that Bush himself is a vile child molestor and murderer, that Tony Bliar regularly runs drugs from Downing street, or even that David Icke was right and the Queen really is a seven foot baby eating lizard person; or it can prove any other phoney charge you wish to throw about. They will not be able to defend themselves from those charges because if they are innocent, then they will be proved guilty by the lack of evidence against them.

In other words we can't prove it. Oh really? Well then, that proves it's true! Or another simpler explanation is lack of proof is proof. How much more Orwellian can you get?

Denial by these people of such things further proves the case against them as they all have lied before (as have ALL humans), therefore you can't trust a word they say.

Using the standards of international law endorsed by Bush, the Iraqis actually have more right, under the said international law, to attack the US than the US has of attacking Iraq. Based on the much banded 'Pre emptive, Defensive strike'; Iraq can prove that as a sovereign nation, it feels that it is likely to face an attack, possibly by a nation intent on using weapons of mass destruction, and therefore has the right to self defense under the relevent articles of the United Nations.

Why isn't the Global media screaming these obvious contradictions, in the western leaders arguments, out for the world to hear. the only places that these contradictions appear is within the chattering classes written media (small harmless circulation), and the alternative web-based news. Mainstream prime time mass culture news media is swallowing and regurgitating the Bush-Bliar lies verbatim without question or apology.

We should look perhaps to the ownership of such media, and we will see what? That the owners of the media intent on war are the people that also own huge shareholdings in weapons manufacturing? or how about Middle east construction Companies? or Oil? The media Giants are set to make a fortune from the 'inevitable war that isn't inevitable'. This conflict of interest that is due to cost the lives of perhaps millions of innocent men, women and children has got to stop.

Innocent servicemen and women from the US and the UK will be butchering innocent iraqis in the false belief that it will be to defend their own homelands. To murder people for a lie is wrong. to murder people to make oil and weapons manufacturing company shareholders rich is wrong.

The Iraqi war is wrong.
